Sunday, October 15th
This Sunday, we'll be looking at Isaiah 5:8-30.
As you prepare to hear God's word this coming Lord's Day, please consider the following passages: Lev 25:1-12 Matthew 15:1-20 1 Jn 1:5-2:6 Issues of the heart are always difficult – the heart can deceive, trick. That is why we need to maintain a close relationship with our heavenly Father – through his word. Not only is it easy to deceive ourselves, it is easy for our actions to become hollow, empty and vain, as Jesus reminded his hearers in Matthew 15:7-9. Instead of resembling the Pharisees, we are to resemble our Father in Heaven, as John wrote 1 Jn 2:6.
As we look at these issues still close to us today, we will see in Isaiah that we are not too very different from Israel and Judah. Remember the context Is 5:1-7 – the vineyard. Now, the rotten and wild grapes have flourished and their stench has reached the heavens. As the prophet, through the grace and will of God, enumerates the sins of Israel, we'll see familiar things like greed, cynicism, corruption, and drunkenness. For their sin, judgment is looming over the horizon. We, on the other hand, trust in Christ our Savior, but there will be a day of judgment for us as well. May we live lives pleasing to our father now, so we may hear "Well done, good and faithful servant."
Solo Deo Gloria,
Jason
