One of the best things about being a Christian is that we actually have Someone we can direct our thanksgiving to, the God of all the earth. Psalm 97 is a classic poem of praise to God for His sovereignty, His awesome power, Hs judgments, and His blessing on all who worship the one true God. This Thanksgiving let us thank God more for who He is than anything else. It follows, doesn’t it that if we have a low concept of God our expectation, comfort and dependence on Him will be low as well. If God is not sovereign He may care for me, but His ability to actually change my situation is nonsense, but if the Lord is Lord then it is worth while to commit my life to Him and ask Him to work in it for His glory and my ultimate good.
Think through this Psalm slowly, commit it to memory, and line up your life and thinking with its precepts. Joy is the inevitable result of knowing the awesome wisdom and love of God. May the Lord grant you a joyful Thanksgiving.
See you Sunday,
Lee
