James 5:16-18

Dear friends,

This Sunday we will examine some events in the life of a fascinating OT prophet, Elijah the Tishbite. John the Baptist came in the spirit of this man to announce the coming of the Messiah. The most famous story of Elijah is the battle on Mt. Carmel between Elijah and the 400 prophets of Baal. However we are concerned with his prayer life which James 5:16-18 holds up as an encouragement for us to believe we too can pray with effect. This is especially true when we consider prayer for healing – so we have:

Please pray for Mike Freeman; after surgery on his gallbladder on Oct. 18, this past Wed. he began having complications. He went to the ER on Saturday & will see the surgeon tomorrow at 8:30 am to analyze the tests done Saturday & decide what to do. Please pray for wisdom for the doctors & that Mike will be able to sleep better. please pray it is not the lymphoma returning! Patty called me this am; thanks, Betty

The above was given as an announcement on the FBF General announcement page this morning. As you pray for Mike remember Elijah who was just a man for all that , and God answered his prayer. James says God will respond to believing prayer from a righteous person. Read about Elijah in 1 Kings 17 -19. Elijah at times showed great bravery and faith, yet the threat of Jezebel’s vengeance drove him away into the wilderness. He was in his feelings and humanity just like us.

I would also like us to be reading Psalm 139 which plainly teaches that the Lord is concerned and knows about even the smallest details of our life. Do not neglect these passages or reading the Word this week. Satan wants us to be busy so we have our mind in the TIMES instead of the ETERNITIES. Jesus’ question hits home: “What does it profit to have gained the whole world, but lose our souls?”

Be thinking about the Oct. 12 healing service/group prayer meeting from 5-6 PM. Let’s learn how to pray together and see God’s hand in His power to heal.

See you Sunday,

Lee
