Sermon – January 25, 2009
Dear folks,
This Sunday FBF will have a baptism service, 2PM – Maranatha Baptist Church. The sermon will answer the question of why be baptized? Can a person be a Christian without baptism? How is the term used in the New Testament? What does baptism accomplish regarding forgiveness of sin and the unity of the Church?
Deuteronomy 6:1-9 isa good reminder of the unity of God’s people. Peter says (1 Peter 2:9-10) we are a chosen people who have received mercy from God so we must live different from the lost people around us.
Baptism can also be used in a metaphorical sense of coming under the influence of another (1 Corinthians 10:1-5) such as Moses or undergoing a time of testing as seen in Mark 10:35-45.
Unity of the body of Christ is vital to ur Christian walk so read 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 for the basis and implications of being one with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Please read over these Scriptures the next couple of days and plan to participate with us in the baptism service of my two adult children, Thomas and Madelyn.
See you Sunday,
Lee
