Sunday Notes, July 4, 2010
Dear folks,
Have you dreamed lately? What do your dreams mean? Dreams are not visions, sometimes they mean nothing but undigested food, yet maybe the Lord is talking with you. Let’s learn about the significance of dreams and the unlikely and strange packages which deliver the grace of God.
Joseph is now living in his humiliation, ( Genesis, chapter 40) -but the Lord was with him in prison. Soon the chief jailer, like Potiphar, entrusted everything to Joseph. Now begins a three year stretch in “chokie” for our hero, but through this he meets two advisors to Pharaoh. The chief cup bearer and the chief baker have offended the big guy and are jail mates of Joseph. It just so happens they have puzzling dreams, Joseph correctly interprets the dreams, but nothing happens in his favor. He has to wait for two long years before events suddenly change for the better.
How about you? What are you waiting for? Does it seem like nothing is happening? Take courage and learn hope hope from the jailbird, who knows what the Lord will do? Here is a sampling of wait on the Lord verses:
Psalm 27:14 Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!
Psalm 31:24 Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!
Psalm 33:20 Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.
Psalm 37:7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!
Psalm 38:15 But for you, O Lord, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer.
Psalm 39:7 “And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you
Psalm 59:3 I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.
Do you think there is a message here? Often we have to wait, but believe me later we will see the Lord’s wisdom, power and mercy. Wisdom comes with time, reflection and humility.
Here is a prayer of St. Patrick which encourages us to trust in the Lord, and ask for His care all day long.
Christ, as a light
illumine and guide me.
Christ, as a shield
overshadow me.
Christ under me;
Christ over me;
Christ beside me
on my left and my right.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
Be in the heart of each to whom I speak;
in the mouth of each who speaks unto me.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
Christ as a light;
Christ as a shield;
Christ beside me
on my left and my right. Amen.
See you Sunday,
Lee
