<itunes:summary>During these difficult times, it's difficult to remember that God is in control. From the failings of banks and mega-companies, to massive bail-outs that stem the proclaimed flood of unemployed. Things are clearly uncertain now. But should we have the same insecurities that many have now? Or should we have a surety that is fundamentally different?

The Heidelberg Catechism, question 28, addresses this:

Question 28. What advantage is it to us to know that God has created, and by his providence does still uphold all things?

Answer: That we may be patient in adversity; thankful in prosperity; and that in all things, which may hereafter befall us, we place our firm trust in our faithful God and Father, that nothing shall separate us from his love; since all creatures are so in his hand, that without his will they cannot so much as move.

It is my prayer that after looking at Ecclesiastes 7:1-14 we will have a greater security and a heart of wisdom to deal with the complex world in which we live. In preparation, read through the following:

Job 42:1-19 -- You know the Job story, how his faithful friends offered advice. Remember, test what you hear. The three friends weren't the best of advisers.
Matthew 6:19-24 -- In this section of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus offers some words of wisdom on where we should place our trust.

Colossians 1:24-2:5 -- The church at Colossae was plagued with mystery religions that threatened to stamp our their faith in Christ. Here, Paul reminds them of where true wisdom lives.

Until Sunday.

Solo Deo Gloria,
jason
