EXODUS 34:5-9

 5 The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with Moses there,
and proclaimed the name of the Lord.
6 The Lord passed before him and proclaimed,
“The Lord, the Lord, is a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,
7 keeping steadfast love for thousands,
forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin,
but who will by no means clear the guilty,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children
and the children’s children,
to the third and the fourth generation.”
8 And Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth
and worshiped. 9 And he said,
“If now I have found favor in your sight, O Lord,
please let the Lord go in the midst of us,
for we are a stiff-necked people,
and pardon our iniquity and our sin,
and take us for your inheritance.”

BLESSED BE THE NAME (HYMN 32) by William H. Clark
All praise to Him Who reigns above
In majesty supreme,
Who gave His Son for man to die,
That He might man redeem!

Blessed be the Name! Blessed be the Name!
Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
Blessed be the Name! Blessed be the Name!
Blessed be the Name of the Lord!

His Name above all names shall stand,
Exalted more and more,
At God the Father’s own right hand,
Where angel hosts adore.

Redeemer, Savior, Friend of man
Once ruined by the fall,
Thou hast devised salvation’s plan,
For Thou hast died for all.

His Name shall be the Counselor,
The mighty Prince of Peace,
Of all earth’s kingdoms Conqueror,
Whose reign shall never cease.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus—vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me,
Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love—
Leading onward, leading homeward, to Thy glorious rest above.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus—spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore.
How He watcheth o’er His loved ones, died to call them all His own;
How for them He intercedeth, watcheth o’er them from the throne!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus—love of every love the best!
’Tis an ocean vast of blessing, ’tis a haven sweet of rest.
O the deep, deep love of Jesus—’tis a heaven of heavens to me;
And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee.

VICTORY CHANT by Joseph Vogels
     echo the worship leader:
Hail, Jesus, You’re my King.
Your life frees me to sing;
I will praise You all my days,
You’re perfect in all Your ways.
Hail Jesus, You’re my Lord,
I will obey Your Word;
I want to see Your kingdom come,
not my will but Yours be done.
Glory, glory to the Lamb,
You take me into the land;
We will conquer in Your name,
and proclaim that Jesus reigns!
Hail, hail, Lion of Judah,
how powerful You are!
Hail, hail, Lion of Judah,
how wonderful You are!
How wonderful You are!

Scripture:  Mark 12:28-34

Sermon: Our Sacred Narrative
Deuteronomy 6-9

We have a story to tell—a story of grace, a story of holiness.

1) May we teach the next generation the awesome truth of the Lord, leaving a legacy of love.

2) May we never forget that we completely depend
on the grace and provision of our good God.

3) May we be zealous in our fight against sin;
may we be zealous in our witness to a lost world.

Come, Thou Fount of ev’ry blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet sung by flaming tongues above;
Praise the mount; I’m fixed upon it, mount of Thy redeeming love.

Here I raise mine Ebenezer—hither by Thy help I’m come;
And I hope by Thy good pleasure safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger wand’ring from the fold of God;
He to rescue me from danger interposed His precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness like a fetter bind my wand’ring heart to Thee:
Prone to wander—Lord, I feel it—prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart—O take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.

Feel free to respond in prayer, aloud or silently, as the Lord leads.

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee, hail Thee as the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee, earth and heav’n reflect Thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around Thee, center of unbroken praise;
Field and forest, vale and mountain, bloss’ming meadow, flashing sea,
Chanting bird and flowing fountain call us to rejoice in Thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest,
Wellspring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou the Father, Christ our brother—all who live in love are Thine:
Teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals, join the mighty chorus which the morning stars began;
Father love is reigning o’er us, brother love binds man to man.
Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife;
Joyful music lifts us sunward in the triumph song of life.
