THIRD SUNDAY IN ADVENT
NEW TIME: For a livestream of the service, click here at 9 am on Sunday morning. Afterwards it will be available at the same link as a recording. If it doesn’t work properly at 9, it might mean we had a technical issue. If so, we will send out a new link to the recording.
If you prefer a bulletin, click this link: Bulletin 20-12-13-web. It contains most of the material below.
CALL TO WORSHIP
I JOHN 4:16-21
God is love, and whoever abides in love
abides in God, and God abides in him.
By this is love perfected in us,
so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment,
because as he is, so also are we in this world.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.
For fear has to do with punishment,
and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
We love because he first loved us.
If anyone says, “I love God,”
and hates his brother, he is a liar;
for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen
cannot love God whom he has not seen.
And this commandment we have from him:
whoever loves God must also love his brother.
PRAISE & WORSHIP
THE FBF YOUTH SINGERS
O COME, ALL YE FAITHFUL
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye, to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him, born the King of angels;
O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.
Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation;
O sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!
Glory to God, glory in the highest;
Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning;
Jesus, to Thee be all glory given;
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing.
ANGELS WE HAVE HEARD ON HIGH (HYMN 89)
Angels we have heard on high,
Sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply,
Echoing their joyous strains.
Gloria in excelsis Deo! Gloria in excelsis Deo!
Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heav’nly song?
Come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee
Christ, the Lord, the newborn King!
GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN
Go tell it on the mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere,
Go, tell it on the mountain—
That Jesus Christ is born.
While shepherds kept their watching
O’er silent flocks by night,
Behold throughout the heavens
There shone a holy light.
The shepherds feared and trembled
When lo! above the earth
Rang out the angel chorus
That hailed our Savior’s birth.
Down in a lowly manger
The humble Christ was born,
And God sent us salvation
That blessed Christmas morn.
MINISTRY OF THE WORD
Scripture: Ephesians 2:1-10
SERMON: Love at the Table
ONE BIG IDEA
Great is His grace for us. Great is our love for Him.
1) We express both repentance and adoration humbly before our Lord.
2) When the burden of heavy sin is lifted from us, there is cause for great joy.
3) In response to the grace of Jesus in our lives, we are invited to service and ministry.
RESPONSE TO THE PREACHED WORD
OFFERING by Paul Baloche
Over the skies of Bethlehem
Appeared a star,
While angels sang to lowly shepherds.
Three wise men seeking truth
Traveled from afar,
Hoping to find the Child from heaven.
Falling on their knees they bowed
Before the humble Prince of Peace.
I bring an offering of worship to my King.
No one on earth deserves the praises that I sing!
Jesus, may You receive the honor that You’re due:
O Lord, I bring an offering to You,
I bring an offering to You.
The sun cannot compare to the glory of Your love;
There is no shadow in Your presence.
No mortal man would dare to stand before Your throne,
before the Holy One of heaven.
It’s only by Your blood, and it’s
only through Your mercy, Lord, I come.

THE APOSTLES’ CREED (200 AD}
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
On the third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand
of God the Father Almighty.
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
DISTRIBUTION OF THE ELEMENTS
The bread is in the cup underneath the wine or juice.
Grape juice is gold; wine is purple.
The communion bread is gluten-free.
All believers are invited to share in the remembrance of the Lord’s redemptive sacrifice on our behalf. We welcome to the Lord’s Table
all Christians who acknowledge their sins, who trust
that Christ Jesus died for the forgiveness of their sins, w
ho recognize that the Bread and Wine represent the sacrifice
of Christ for us, and who desire to live a life pleasing to the Lord.
(MATTHEW 26:26-28; I CORINTHIANS 10:16 & 11:25-32; ROMANS 12:1-2)
JOYFUL, JOYFUL, WE ADORE YOU
Joyful, joyful, we adore You,
God of glory, Lord of light;
Angels lifting praise before You,
Sing thro-out this holy night.
In a manger lies a Baby—
Child of Mary, Son of God.
Voices joined in joyful chorus,
Praise You for Your gift of love.
All Your works declare Your glory;
All creation joins to sing.
Praise resounds as earth rejoices,
In the birth of Christ, the King.
Shepherds kneel before the Infant.
Trumpets sound and anthems raise
As with joy our hearts are lifted,
Joined in wonder, love, and praise.
