NEW TIME: For a livestream of the service, click here at 9 am on Sunday morning. Afterwards it will be available at the same link as a recording. If it doesn’t work properly at 9, it might mean we had a technical issue. If so, we will send out a new link to the recording.

If you prefer a bulletin, click this link: Bulletin 21-01-03-web. It contains most of the material below.

1  Getting into a boat, Jesus crossed over and came to his own city.
2 And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic,
“Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.”
3 And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves,
“This man is blaspheming.”
4 But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said,
“Why do you think evil in your hearts?
5 For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’
or to say, ‘Rise up and walk’ ?
6 But in order that you may umderstand
that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—
he then said to the paralytic—
“Rise, pick up your bed, and go home.”
7 And the man rose up and went home.
8 When the crowds saw it, they were afraid,
and they glorified God,
who had given such authority to men.

We three kings of Orient are: bearing gifts we traverse afar,
Field and fountain, moor and mountain, following yonder star.

O Star of wonder, Star of night, star with royal beauty bright,
westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to Thy perfect light.

Born a Babe on Bethlehem’s plain, gold we bring to crown Him again,
King forever, ceasing never, over us all to reign.

Frankincense to offer have I—incense owns a Deity nigh;
Prayer and praising, all men raising, worship Him, God on high.

Myrrh is mine—its bitter perfume breathes a life of gathering gloom;
Sorr’wing, sighing, bleeding, dying, sealed in the stone-cold tomb.

Glorious now behold Him arise, King and God and sacrifice!
Alleluia, alleluia, Earth to Heaven replies.

AS WITH GLADNESS, MEN OF OLD (HYMN 96) by Wiliam Knox, 1860
As with gladness, men of old did the guiding star behold—
As with joy they hailed its light leading onward, beaming bright—
So, most gracious Lord, may we evermore be led to Thee.

As with joyful steps they sped to that lowly manger bed
There to bend the knee before Him whom heaven and earth adore;
So may we with willing feet ever seek Thy mercy seat.

As they offered gifts most rare at that manger rude and bare;
So may we with holy joy, pure and free from sin’s alloy,
All our costliest treasures bring, Christ, to Thee, our heavenly King.

Holy Jesus, every day keep us in the narrow way;
And, when earthly things are past, bring our ransomed souls at last
Where they need no star to guide, where no clouds Thy glory hide.

WE WILL GLORIFY by Twila Paris
We will glorify the King of Kings,
we will glorify the Lamb;
We will glorify the Lord of Lords,
who is the great I am.

Lord Jehovah reigns in majesty;
we will bow before His throne,
We will worship Him in righteousness,
we will worship Him alone.

He is Lord of heaven, Lord of earth,
He is Lord of all who live;
He is Lord above the universe,
all praise to Him we give.

Hallelujah to the King of Kings,
Hallelujah to the Lamb;
Hallelujah to the Lord of Lords,
who is the great I am.

SERMON: A Day at the Lake with Jesus
Luke 8:22-39

With complete authority, Jesus can powerfully transform any situation.

1) Jesus has complete authority over the natural world.

2) Jesus has complete authority over the supernatural world.

3) Some will push Jesus away; some will yearn to follow.

WE FALL DOWN by Chris Tomlin

We fall down, we lay our crowns
At the feet of Jesus:
The greatness of his mercy and love
At the feet of Jesus.

We cry Holy, Holy, Holy!
We cry Holy, Holy, Holy!
We cry Holy, Holy, Holy,
Is the Lamb.

Feel free to respond in prayer, aloud or silently, as the Lord leads.

O come, let us adore Him,  o come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

We’ll praise His name forever, we’ll praise His name forever,
We’ll praise His name forever, Christ the Lord.

We’ll give Him all the glory,  we’ll give Him all the glory,
We’ll give Him all the glory, Christ the Lord.

For He alone is worthy, for He alone is worthy,
For  He alone is worthy, Christ the Lord.
