PSALM 62 (excerpts)

1  For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
2  He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. . . .

5  For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us. . . .

11 Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
12 and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. . . .

Bless the Lord, oh my soul, oh my soul,
Worship His holy name!
Sing like never before, oh my soul;
I worship your holy name.

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning;
It’s time to sing your song again.
Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me,
Let me be singing when the evening comes.

You’re rich in love, and You’re slow to anger.
Your name is great, and Your heart is kind.
For all Your goodness, I will keep on singing;
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.

And on that day when my strength is failing,
The end draws near, and my time has come;
Soon my soul will sing your praise unending;
Ten thousand years and then forever more!

Who, oh Lord, could save themselves,
Their own soul could heal?
Our shame was deeper than the sea;
Your grace is deeper still.

You alone can rescue, You alone can save,
You alone can lift us from the grave.
You came down to find us, led us out of death.
To You alone belongs the highest praise.

You, oh Lord, have made a way; the great divide You heal.
For when our hearts were far away
Your love went further still: yes, your love goes further still.

We lift up our eyes, lift up our eyes. You’re the Giver of Life.

EVERLASTING GOD by Brenton Brown and Ken Riley

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord.
We will wait upon the Lord,
We will wait upon the Lord. (Repeat)

Our God, You reign forever.
Our Hope, our Strong Deliverer.
You are the everlasting God,
The everlasting God.
You do not faint,
You won’t grow weary.

You’re the defender of the weak,
You comfort those in need.
You lift us up on wings like eagles.

PSALM 62 by Stuart Townend

My soul finds rest in God alone, my Rock and my salvation;
A fortress strong against my foes, and I will not be shaken.
Though lips may bless and hearts may curse, and lies like arrows pierce me,
I’ll fix my heart on righteousness, I’ll look to Him who hears me.

O praise Him, hallelujah, my Delight and my reward;
Everlasting, never failing, my Redeemer, my God.

Find rest, my soul, in God alone amid the world’s temptations;
When evil seeks to take a hold I’ll cling to my salvation.
Though riches come and riches go, don’t set your heart upon them;
The fields of hope in which I sow are harvested in heaven.

I’ll set my gaze on God alone and trust in Him completely;
With every day pour out my soul and He will prove His mercy.
Though life is but a fleeting breath, a sigh too brief to measure,
My King has crushed the curse of death and I am His forever.

Sermon Notes

ONE BIG IDEA—Our mission is the gospel; our reward is the harvest.

1) We are called to strength, endurance, and faithfulness in our service of the gospel.

2) Pursue holy Scripture and holy living.

3) Gentleness can preserve unity.

O soul, are you weary and troubled? No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior, and life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
in the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting He passed and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion—for more than conqu’rors we are!

His word shall not fail you—He promised; believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying, His perfect salvation to tell.

Feel free to respond in prayer, aloud or silently, as the Lord leads.

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father!
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not:
As Thou hast been Thou forever will be.

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thine hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide,
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow:
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
