CALL TO WORSHIP

Luke 1:46-55
46 And Mary said,
“My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
50 And his mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
51 He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
and exalted those of humble estate;
53 he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
55 as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”

PRAISE & WORSHIP

O THE DEEP, DEEP LOVE OF JESUS (HYMN 61)
O the deep, deep love of Jesus—vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me,
Underneath me, all around me is the current of Thy love—
Leading onward, leading homeward, to Thy glorious rest above.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus—spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore.
How He watcheth o’er His loved ones, died to call them all His own;
How for them He intercedeth,watcheth o’er them from the throne!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus—love of every love the best!
’Tis an ocean vast of blessing, ’tis a haven sweet of rest.
O the deep, deep love of Jesus—’tis a heaven of heavens to me;
And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee.

SHOUT TO THE NORTH by Martin Smith
Men of faith, rise up and sing of the great and glorious King!
You are strong when you feel weak, in your brokenness complete.

Shout to the North and the South, Sing to the East and the West:
Jesus is Savior to all, Lord of Heaven and Earth!

Rise up, women of the truth! Stand and sing to broken hearts
Who can know the healing power of our awesome King of Love.

We’ve been through fire, we’ve been through rain,
We’ve been refined by the power of His name.
We’ve fallen deeper in love with You;
You’ve burned the truth on our lips.

Rise up, church with broken wings, fill this place with songs again
Of our God who reigns on high! By His grace again we’ll fly.

SONG FOR THE NATIONS by Chris Christensen
May we be a shining light to the nations,
a shining light to the peoples of the earth;
till the whole world sees the glory of your name,
may your pure light shine through us.

May we bring a word of hope to the nations,
a word of life to the peoples of the earth;
till the whole world knows there’s salvation through your name,
may your mercy flow through us.

May we be a healing balm to the nations,
a healing balm to the peoples of the earth;
till the whole world knows the power of your name,
may your healing flow through us.

May we sing a song of joy to the nations,
a song of praise to the peoples of the earth;
till the whole world rings with the praises of your name,
may your song be sung through us.

May your kingdom come to the nations,
your will be done to the peoples of the earth;
till the whole world knows that Jesus Christ is Lord,
may your kingdom come in us.

MINISTRY OF THE WORD

SCRIPTURE: Matthew 5:1-16

SERMON:
Good Morning on the Mountainside
Luke 6:12-36

ONE BIG IDEA
As disciples, we are called to a great reversal.

1) Prayer reveals the will of God.

2) There is great blessing in the kingdom of God.

3) Jesus calls us to express revolutionary mercy and love.

RESPONSE TO THE PREACHED WORD

I WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW by Twila Paris
You are bread where there is hunger,
In the desert You are thunder.
You are all we need, all we need.
You are peace where men would riot;
In the turmoil there is quiet.
You are all we need, all we need.

I want the world to know:
there is one shining hope.
I want the world to know You.

To the broken You bring healing,
To the heart of stone revealing,
You are all we need, all we need.
You are friendship to the lonely,
The forever one and only.
You are all we need, all we need.

I want the world to know,
The story must be told.
I want the world to know the Truth.
I want the world to know:
There is one shining hope.
I want the world to know You.

You are love where there is hatred,
You are life and You are sacred.
You are all we need, all we need.

I want the world to know,
The story must be told.
I want the world to know the Truth.
I want the world to know:
There is one shining hope.
I want the world to know You,
To know You, to know You.

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER
Feel free to respond in prayer, aloud or silently, as the Lord leads.

THE BLESSING
The Lord bless you and keep you,
Make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you!
The Lord turn His face toward you
And give you peace!
Amen, amen, amen!
Amen, amen, amen!

As we receive, we agree:
Amen, amen, amen, amen.

May His favor be upon you
And a thousand generations—
Your family and your children
And their children, and their children!

May His presence go before you
And behind you, and beside you,
All around you, and within you!

He is with you, He is with you,
In the morning, in the evening,
In your coming, and your going,
In your weeping, and rejoicing.
He is for you, He is for you,
He is for you, He is for you!

Amen, amen, amen,
Amen, amen, amen!
